LICENSED CLINICAL SOCIAL WORKER | CERTIFIED CLINICAL TRAUMA PROFESSIONAL

I'm Charlene, an East Coast born and raised, West Coast trained, Licensed Clinical Social Worker.  I’ll list my other credentials later.  But first I want you to know that I have a heart filled with passion for my work. I’m incredibly honored and humbled when survivors of trauma and other life challenges allow me to partner with them on their healing journeys. I want this page to help you make an informed decision about whether we’ll work well together.

As humans, we often seek guidance from those who've walked a similar route. I've been there - battling with the paralyzing anxiety that perfectionism can breed. Like you, I was constantly powering through, being a “yes” person and prioritizing career over my personal life.  My work has been meaningful and rewarding. Yet, my journey has also taught me how to heal and build a life no longer driven by overcompensating or the need to please others at my expense.

As a Black woman, I carry the legacy burdens of my ancestors, both known and unknown. The North Star holds deep significance to me, symbolizing the psychological and spiritual guide that led my enslaved ancestors through trauma towards hope, safety, and liberation.

I'm also a proud U.S. Navy veteran with a career spanning 30 years. The challenges and transitions that come with being a naval leader have fortified my resilience and emphasized the importance of radical self-care.  Much like sailors of the past who used the North Star to find their way back to shore, I've found my course corrected by trusted companions in my life. If you're feeling lost, I believe we can accomplish wellness goals at your pace, so that you find the way home to yourself.

 Lives Since 2013

Transforming

Since 2013, I've devoted myself to the helping profession, focusing on trauma survivors. My experiences range from working with vulnerable populations in non-profit, community, and government agencies to serving as a Forensic Clinical Therapist and Core Team Psychotherapist for an inpatient psychiatric unit.  Throughout my journey, I've supported adults, adolescents, families, and fellow veterans. My education includes a graduate degree in Clinical Social Work, with a sub-concentration in Military Social Work & Veterans Services from The University of Southern California. I also hold a B.S. from Troy University.

In addition to my formal education, I'm a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP) and have obtained additional training and certifications in Complex Trauma, PTSD and Trauma Interventions from Internal Family Systems, Parts Work, and Dr. Bessel van der Kolk’s ITT training on 'How the Body Keeps the Score.'  Additionally, I'm trained in crisis management and stabilization conflict resolution.

More On Me..

Outside of my practice I'm quite the globe-trotter. I love traveling around the world, and exploring diverse cultures. Food is a big part of that – I'm a serious foodie and I get excited about trying local cuisine. It's not just about the taste, it's about new experiences, getting a feel for the place I'm in and learning about different ways of life.

Now, when I'm not traveling or dining, I'm likely soaking up some live music or catching a movie or play. There's just something about the arts. Whether it's the energy of a live concert or the storytelling of a great film, it's like fuel for my soul.  I also love expressing my creativity through style and interior design. I have a passion for fashion and ‘dopamine dressing’ has become a favorite pastime.

Health and fitness are super important to me. I make sure to keep moving. For me, a good run, a challenging hike or just a long, mindful walk—sometimes as much as 10 miles—works wonders. It's my way of meditating and staying fit at the same time.

And at the end of the day, nothing beats a good laugh with friends and family. These simple moments are some of the best – they bring balance to my life and help me recharge.   These experiences don't just make me happy—they also influence how I approach my work. I believe they help me to understand, support and connect with my clients on a deeper level.
